The magic of learning
through creativity and play
One thing that our projects have in
common is the solid basis in creative
methods. Our experience with Casa de
la Alegría has taught us that the use of
theater, games, arts and dance is our
unique strength in creating a sustainable
change within vulnerable groups.
We combine verbal and nonverbal
approaches to learning, creating a
dynamic and engaging teaching
environment for those we help. This
makes learning more relatable, engaging
and dynamic, no matter the age!
As Kikinpi Wiñay, rather
than focusing on one
specific target group, we aim
to target a wider range of
communities. We work with
a variety of groups and
populations, embracing inclusivity
and diversity. Below, three
examples of our work.
La Cancha
One of the initial projects we support
through Kikinpi Wiñay is the establishment
of an integrated daycare center at “La
Cancha”. This gigantic market is booming
with vendors, narrow chaotic alleys and
people of all ages and backgrounds. Young
mothers selling their goods here often have
to bring their children along but cannot
afford to give them space or attention.
As a result, these children are left to
entertain themselves for hours in a chaotic,
sometimes dangerous environment filled
with traffic, garbage, and violence.
Through Kikinpi Wiñay, we aim to open a
daycare center at La Cancha where safe
entertainment for children (particularly
for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers) is
central. This creates a win-win situation: the
children can play and simply be carefree
kids, while the mothers have one less
worry and can focus on their market work.

La Cancha
One of our groups provides a space
for free play for children and adolescents
from precarious backgrounds. Through
free play, children and adolescents can learn
and practice specific skills like expressing
boundaries and emotions, raising body
awareness and building their self- confidence
through the discovery or their specific
talents. This way, they will be more
self-sufficient later in life.

La Cancha
Another local initiative creates a safe
space for young, sometimes even adolescent, mothers who come from high-
risk environments. Here, young mothers
get the opportunity to develop skills to be
able to obtain a job or open a small
business. This groups’ goal is to help the
mothers escape toxic or dangerous
environments they saw themselves forced
to be in, in order to gain an income for
themselves and their children. In this safe
space, besides the practical tools, they are
also given the chance to work on their
physical and emotional wellbeing. This is
an absolute necessity for them to make
responsible choices in the future, for their
and their children’s sake.
